Birds sing in the distance, the scent of wildflowers hangs in the air, and the sunshine feels warm on her skin as she lounges on the green grass by the water’s edge, dipping her toes in.
She loves being here talking together or just enjoying the quiet. She feels so safe and peaceful, sometimes she forgets the world is raging around her.
Her outside life is bustling, loud, and sometimes scary; but deep within, she walks in sweet communion with the Shepherd of her soul. He is always there, never leaving even when she ignores him and focuses on external events.
No matter what demands her attention, she can manage it with grace knowing he is with her leading the way. There are many blessings in her life with family, friends, and experiences that when she counts his friendship on top of them, her heart overflows and swells with gratitude.
Oh, she has enemies too – trials, tragedy, fear, pain, and death – and when they surround her, she feels a tap on her shoulder and turns to see her Shepherd setting a table for two and pulling out her chair like the gentleman he is!
In the beginning, her soul was pure and strong, but life has brought damage, disease, and weariness. It is in this place of communion that he restores it as one might restore an old car or piece of furniture. He says when he looks at her, he sees only perfection, unstained and full of potential, causing her to walk with her head held high, though she knows it is because of his mercy and goodness.

“I am the good shepherd … My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

My Savior and Friend, thank you for being with me and never leaving! You restore my soul and keep me in perfect peace, meeting all my needs. When I am tempted to focus on circumstances or give in to fear, help me to come to the table of fellowship with You and rest in Your presence.
